London’s “rainbow baby” photograph was originally meant only for Patricia and Kimberly O’Neill, as a reminder of their journey to give birth. However, with nearly 65,000 shares on Facebook, the photo has become a sʏᴍʙᴏʟ of hope for those who are sᴛʀᴜɢɢʟɪɴɢ with infertility .

“I hope couples working hard to have a baby can see a bit of light at the end of the tunnel. All you have to do is get to the end of the road,” Patricia O’Neill told.

Before that, they both had stepchildren with their ex, Patricia’s daughter was 7 and Kimberly’s son 14 years old. After a period of consideration and discussion, the couple decided Patricia would conceive of the two’s common child.

The mother shared: “At first, we thought it was just going to the ɪɴFᴇʀᴛɪʟɪᴛʏ ᴄʟɪɴɪᴄ – ɪɴFᴇʀᴛɪʟɪᴛʏ and nine months later, the baby would be born. But the story turned completely different. ”

Realizing something was wrong, the doctor decided to do ɢᴇɴᴇᴛɪᴄ ᴛᴇsᴛɪɴɢ, concluding that Patricia had a ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ ᴄʟᴏᴛᴛɪɴɢ ᴄᴏɴᴅɪᴛɪᴏɴ ᴄᴀʟʟᴇᴅ Factor V Leiden. Women with this ɢᴇɴᴇ ᴍᴜᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴ have an increased ʀɪsᴋ of ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ ᴄʟᴏᴛs during pregnancy. Losing her third baby, Patricia really lost her temper: “At that time, I thought that it was over, I couldn’t take it any longer. But my wife – who is always by the side in every difficult decision – is determined not to give up. They decided to use the last ᴇᴍʙʀʏᴏ, putting their trust in Dr. John Couvaras, an ᴇɴᴅᴏᴄʀɪɴᴏʟᴏɢɪsᴛ – reproductive expert with nearly 30 years of experience.

Dr. Couvaras said: “Patricia’s case is very ᴅᴀɴɢᴇʀᴏᴜs because the ᴘᴀᴛɪᴇɴᴛ used to rely on methods of ɪɴ ᴠɪᴛʀᴏ Fᴇʀᴛɪʟɪᴢᴀᴛɪᴏɴ and suffered multiple ᴍɪsᴄᴀʀʀɪᴀɢᴇs. Besides, the ᴘᴀᴛɪᴇɴᴛ has sɪɢɴs ᴏF sᴡᴇʟʟɪɴɢ ᴇᴀsɪʟʏ, ʟᴏᴡ ᴠɪᴛᴀᴍɪɴ D ᴄᴏɴᴛᴇɴᴛ ᴀɴᴅ ᴇɴᴢʏᴍᴇ ᴅᴇFɪᴄɪᴇɴᴄʏ ”.

After a thorough review, the doctor decided to give ʜᴇᴘᴀʀɪɴ (a ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ thinner) two shots a day to help the baby with better ʙʟᴏᴏᴅ ᴄɪʀᴄᴜʟᴀᴛɪᴏɴ. Not only that, Patricia is not even allowed to move around, do much activities. She does an ᴜʟᴛʀᴀsᴏᴜɴᴅ every two weeks to ensure the health of the fetus. And the sweet fruit ended after more than 4 years of sᴛʀᴜɢɢʟɪɴɢ with so many difficulties and 40,000 USD in hospital fees. Kimberly himself was the one who ignited the idea of photographing her little daughter among the needles, so she was carefully kept after each Iɴᴊᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ by her husband.

The couple “chose the face to send gold” is the infant photographer Samantha Packer, the author of a series of pictures “rainbow babies”. During the photo shoot just a week after Londo was born, Packer spent more than an hour meticulously arranging the needle into a heart shape. She feels honored to be able to do this meaningful work.

“When we saw the heart shape lined with needles, Patricia and Kimberly ɪᴍᴍᴇᴅɪᴀᴛᴇʟʏ ʙᴜʀsᴛ into tears,” said Packer.

I think that’s why the photo has received so much attention – it tells the journey, the love, the hardships and the sweet accomplishments of being a child. ”

“My wife saved every single needle that I injected, all capped and plastic seals around them and everything,” explained Patricia explained.

The image of baby London and the O’Neill’s sᴛʀᴜɢɢʟᴇ has struck a chord with people everywhere, wracking up 63K shares on Facebook.“I hope that there’s a couple out there that’s going through what we are that can see that there’s hope at the end of the tunnel,” expressed Patricia.
