Couple Who sᴛʀᴜɢɢʟᴇᴅ To Get Pregnant Welcome Baby Boy After 13 years of trying

A couple are overjoyed to welcome their ‘ᴍɪʀᴀᴄʟᴇ’ son this Christmas after 13 years of trying for a baby, sᴜFFᴇʀɪɴɢ ᴇɪɢʜᴛ ᴍɪsᴄᴀʀʀɪᴀɢᴇs.

A delighted couple have welcomed a beautiful baby boy just in time for Christmas after 13 years of trying to get pregnant.

Carissa Morris, 33, and her husband Dave, 32, welcomed their “ᴍɪʀᴀᴄʟᴇ” Oliver on December 17. After a ʜᴇᴀʀᴛʙʀᴇᴀᴋɪɴɢ ᴇɪɢʜᴛ ᴍɪsᴄᴀʀʀɪᴀɢᴇs ᴀɴᴅ sᴜFFᴇʀɪɴɢ ᴛʜᴇ sᴛɪʟʟʙɪʀᴛʜ of a little girl, the Australian couple finally fell pregnant in April after one round of ICSI I.V.F.

Oliver was born at a healthy 6lb 7oz. Carissa, an engineering planner, said: “We tried for years and years naturally to have a baby, we did originally conceive quite a few times, but we just had multiple ᴍɪsᴄᴀʀʀɪᴀɢᴇs and never got past six weeks. We eventually had ᴛᴇsᴛs ᴅᴏɴᴇ ᴀɴᴅ ᴡᴏʀᴋᴇᴅ ᴏᴜᴛ ᴛʜᴀᴛ ᴏɴᴇ ᴏF ᴍʏ ᴛᴜʙᴇs ᴡᴀs ʙʟᴏᴄᴋᴇᴅ ᴀɴᴅ ᴛʜᴇ Fʟᴜɪᴅs ᴡᴇʀᴇ ᴄᴏᴍɪɴɢ ʙᴀᴄᴋ ɪɴᴛᴏ ᴍʏ ᴜᴛᴇʀᴜs, ᴀɴᴅ ɪᴛ ᴡᴀs ʙᴀsɪᴄᴀʟʟʏ like. I had my tube removed, and then we found out that we also had male factor fertility issues.

“There was an issue with my husband’s fertility, and we were told it was caused by his profession as too much heat can affect fertility in men. No one ever warned us, no one ever told us that excess heat would cause . We were then advised to go down the route of ICSI I.V.F where they insert the sperm directly into the ᴇᴍʙʀʏo for the best chance of conceiving. We were really lucky; we did a full round of I.V.F and unfortunately, we didn’t have any ᴇᴍʙʀʏᴏs ᴍᴀᴋᴇ ɪᴛ ᴛᴏ Fʀᴇᴇᴢᴇ.”

“So, we just had our one ᴇᴍʙʀʏo that we were able to have freshly transferred and two weeks later we found out we were pregnant.

When I found out I was pregnant it was probably the best feeling I had ever felt in the world, second to holding him for the first time.”

Carissa says the new family will be spending Christmas Day in ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ as Oliver experienced ʙʀᴇᴀᴛʜɪɴɢ problems shortly after birth.

She said: “He was three weeks early and was ʙᴏʀɴ ʙʟᴜᴇ, ʜɪs ᴏxʏɢᴇɴ ᴅʀᴏᴘᴘᴇᴅ to 20 per cent for nine minutes and he was then ɪᴍᴍᴇᴅɪᴀᴛᴇʟʏ ɪɴᴛᴜʙᴀᴛᴇᴅ. He was worked on by nurses and doctors for three hours to stabilise him. Once he was stabilised, they had the NETS team, which is the Nᴇᴏɴᴀᴛᴀʟ Eᴍᴇʀɢᴇɴᴄʏ Tʀᴀɴsᴘᴏʀᴛ Sᴇʀᴠɪᴄᴇ, come in and pop him in their ɴᴇᴏɴᴀᴛᴀʟ ᴀᴍʙᴜʟᴀɴᴄᴇ.”

“Prior to when he ʟᴇFᴛ, all I was able to do was touch his chin with my finger so the fact I was able to hold him in my arms 30 hours later was nothing short of a ᴍɪʀᴀᴄʟᴇ. Being able to hold Oliver for the first time was magical, He definitely has everybody wrapped around his finger.”she added.

Carissa and Dave can’t wait to take their baby boy home once he’s strong enough. He is currently being fed 45ml per feed through a ɴᴀsᴀʟ ɢᴀsᴛʀɪᴄ ᴛᴜʙᴇ ᴀs ʜᴇ ᴅᴏᴇsɴ’ᴛ ʜᴀᴠᴇ ᴀ sᴜᴄᴋ ʀᴇFʟᴜx ᴄᴜʀʀᴇɴᴛʟʏ,” Carissa explained. He started with a gastric tube because they thought that he had an ᴏʙsᴛʀᴜᴄᴛɪᴏɴ ɪɴ ʜɪs sᴛᴏᴍᴀᴄʜ and may have needed surgery. We’ve had scans done and he doesn’t have that which is great but as a necessity to make sure that he doesn’t lose weight he will be gastric tube fed. We’ll be spending Christmas Day with him in the NICU, we’ll be celebrating Christmas once he comes out of ʜᴏsᴘɪᴛᴀʟ, and we’ll give him all his presents. We were really hoping he’d be out before Christmas but it’s not to be and we know he’s in the best place possible to get the care he needs.
